Terms of Use

Clairwave web platform (www.clairwave.com) · Effective 21 October 2026 (rev. 5) · These terms may change; the current version is always on this page.

These terms apply to the Clairwave web platform, with or without an account. By using the platform you accept them. The public AI-assistant (MCP) endpoint has its own terms. Confidential workspaces, where Clairwave has enabled them for an account, are also governed by the Confidential Workspace Addendum.

1. The service

Clairwave provides ocean-acoustics modelling, environmental data and vessel information for research, planning and education. Results are model estimates built on climatology and public data. They are provided "as is" and are not a substitute for measurements, certified survey products or navigational publications. Do not rely on them for safety-of-life, navigation or regulatory compliance decisions. GPU-accelerated solvers are provided subject to availability.

2. Accounts

3. Acceptable use

4. Usage limits

To keep the service responsive for everyone, compute-heavy features have limits. Current limits for 3-D simulations (rolling 24 hours):

3-D simulations per 24 hRunning at the same time
Guest / free account101
Premium1003

Other features are rate-limited per connection. Limits may change at any time.

5. Stored results

6. Suspension

We may limit, suspend or close access, and delete stored results, where these terms are broken or the service is being abused, normally without prior notice where abuse is ongoing.

7. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Clairwave Inc. is not liable for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, the platform or its results.

8. Export controls and sanctions

The platform, its software and its results may be subject to the export-control and sanctions laws of Canada and of other countries. You agree to use them only in compliance with those laws. To comply with these laws, Clairwave may block access from certain countries or regions, restrict particular features by location, and refuse or end access without notice.

9. Monitoring of use

To run the service, enforce these terms and the usage limits, and keep accounts secure, Clairwave monitors how the platform is used. This includes:

We use this information to detect and investigate abuse, automated use, shared accounts, security incidents and access from restricted locations (sections 2, 3 and 8), to keep the service working, and to meet legal and regulatory obligations. We do not sell it. Logs record your account by an internal identifier, not your e-mail address, and simulation positions only approximately.

How long we keep data

DataKept for
Access, sign-in and activity logs (including IP addresses)12 months
Simulations run without an account7 days
Simulations run from an account30 days, or until you delete them; Premium runs you keep stay until you delete them
Job records and usage countersup to 14 days
Simulations and results inside a confidential workspacenot stored or logged; deleted when the workspace ends (see the addendum)
Account, saved areas, fleets and course progressuntil you delete your account
Backupsabout 10 weeks (the ten most recent weekly backups)

Stored simulations from an account can be opened only by that account. You can delete your account in the app (Account › Delete my account): this removes your stored simulations, jobs, saved areas, fleets, course progress and sign-in. Logs and backups are kept for the periods above, for security and legal reasons: after you delete your account, copies of your data can remain in our encrypted backups until those backups are rotated out, at most about 10 weeks later. Records of licensed manual copies and payments are kept as business records. To ask what we hold about your account, contact us.

Operations and service providers

Clairwave runs the platform with the help of service providers, including network and security services (Cloudflare), payments (Stripe) and weather and ocean data providers. We also use AI-assisted tools, including large-language-model assistants operated by our staff, to build, operate, monitor and secure the platform. These tools may process system data such as logs, configuration and stored results under our control, and only for those purposes. Service providers process data under their own terms and security commitments.
